Have you ever noticed that humans are getting taller but the seats we get into are getting smaller?  As airlines, trains, tubes, and buses try and cram more passengers in to a finite space, they receive complaints from tall people like me.

They often respond by creating ways to up-sell extra leg room seats, that aren’t there by design – simply due to requirements to have exit rows for sufficient room to escape the aircraft – you’ll often find such seats over subscribed and a hefty premium charged if you want them.  This is the Tall Tax.

Back in the good old days, before computers and online check-in – the staff used to take a good look at the tall people and seat us appropriately.  No extra charge, no hassle, just good old fashioned customer service.

Unfortunately, we can’t do much to become shorter – is it not time for the transport companies to accept they’ll just have to sacrifice some capacity to ensure the well-being of their customers?
