A good friend of mine got married in Malta a couple of months ago, after having just returned from a big trip to Peru I was quite in the mood to have a bit of luxury and comfort for a long weekend. Given the terrible flight times for Air Malta I chose to travell out with Easyjet – my first time on an Easyjet flight to be honest and to be fair, I didn’t really mind it – I did the run and got to the back of the plane, nice seat and even in standard seating it was fine for the relatively short flight….
On my return I took Air Malta, which decided to charge me in Euros as I’d started my flight in Malta. I also couldn’t book my girlfriends round trip with them together.
I was quite surprised to hear my girlfriend tell me how bad the flight was when she arrived to Malta late on the Friday evening, bad food, no room, and probably not to anyone’s surprise – she was also one of the youngest on the flight!
She said, we’d have to ask for some leg room seats on the way back and at the airport we did that – although we had a bit of an episode of me not remembering in the underground car park, where exactly I’d parked the car – and they said there were no seats – we had to run to the plane.
On-board we weren’t sat together, I’m putting this down to our fault, but the seats were terrible – there was also room in the exit row and we could have moved but nobody offered to sell us the seats and I glanced upon the in-flight magazine to find that its €25 – however I couldn’t imagine you could ever recline like the photo – do they not have an advertising standards agency in Malta?
The food was pretty bad as she’d said – my real sound advice is to use Easyjet where you can – the Air Malta planes are similar but old style seats just dont give any room. I also hear that Jet2.com are opening up a route there and again, these will be much better for the Tall Traveller going to Malta.
